Receiving flood warnings on the telephone is an established practice (see, for instance, the previous post). Current students at the University of Gloucestershire have been working towards using mobile phone technology for flood resilience on a whole new level by developing a ‘flood app’. Beyond receiving flood warnings, the app is used to prepare for floods, coordinate community response to flooding, document floods, and preserve and develop flood memories.
The project will be presented at ComX12, this year’s exhibition of projects developed by Multimedia, Computing and Interactive Games Design students in the Faculty of Media, Arts and Technology at the University of Gloucestershire.
